Al-Karim #242 Inaugural Potentate Ball

A few weekends ago I had the pleasure of attending the Inaugural Potentate Ball of my husband's Prince Hall Shriner's Temple, Al-Karim #242. This was a formal event, so for me, bringing big bulky camera equipment was not an option. At the last minute I decided to suck it up and bring it anyway.  I must say it's challenging to carry a big camera all while rocking a floor-length gown and heels, but I pulled it off!  One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of a $1,000 donation to the Sisters By Choice charity, a non-profit organization for breast cancer awareness.  The money was provided by the fund raising efforts of the Al-Karim #242 Temple.  Another highlight was the formal introduction of Al-Karim's first Potentate Corey Shakleford, Sr. What an introduction that was! Can you say, Morris Day? (tee hee hee)  DJ Cooly C did his thing!  I especially enjoyed all the old school stuff like Chubb Rock's "Treat Em Right" and Guy's "Teddy's Jam." He kept everyone on the dance floor.  I'm not one to dance at events like this, but I caught myself singing, rapping and even bouncing my shoulders to the music as I worked the room with camera in tow.  Everyone had a great time and I've got pictures to prove it.  Congratulations to my husband Jamal and Al-Karim #242 - keep doing what you do because you're making a difference!  Enjoy!
