Morehouse College Homecoming '10

I can't even tell you the last time I attended a college football game, it's been that long!  Honestly, it must have been some 16 years ago.  This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Morehouse College Homecoming Game and it was a total blast.  My husband Jamal and I arrived on campus at 10am Saturday morning, and Westview Drive was already slammed with cars and people.  We had just missed the parade, so until it was time to head over to the stadium for the game, we hung out in Douglas Hall for a while where the Miss Maroon & White and Bennett College Courts were also hanging out.  Afterward we strolled tailgate row with a few of Jamal's co-workers.
The smell of street fair food and the sound of booming music filled the air as we watched alumni mingling with each other, sporting their Morehouse and Spelman paraphernalia.  Current students beamed with pride and excitement as they gathered to celebrate yet another fabulous Homecoming.  Some tailgaters were still assembling their tents while many were already set up, grills and smokers going strong.
It was a picture perfect day for a football game.  The weather matched the mood of the spectators, who were amped to witness the 6-1 Maroon Tigers beat the 7-0 Golden Rams of Albany State U.  Unfortunately due to a questionable "touchdown" by ASU at the end of the 4th quarter, Morehouse lost 13-12.  The line ref ruled the touchdown no good because one foot was out-of-bounds, but his call was overruled by the lead ref, giving ASU the win - REALLY?
So ends the last home game of the season.  I was on the field when the Tigers were heading back to the locker room when I saw tears streaming down the cheeks of a few players as they passed me.  As much as I wanted to, I dared not whip out my Nikon hanging around my neck to capture their hurt at such an invasive distance, so the images stay in my head(Guess that shows I wasn't cut out to be paparazzi, huh?) Despite the loss, the party carried on in and out of the stadium, while the band played loud and strong.
We spent the rest of the evening mingling, eating and having a great time.  Until next year, enjoy these images!
